On May 9, 2008, Governor Schwarzenegger issued Executive Order S-03-08 to help address the threat of catastrophic wildfire in California.
In 2005, state law established new requirements for defensible space around homes. CAL FIRE (formerly CDF) has been educating the public over the past three years to promote compliance, but the Governor's Executive Order directs CAL FIRE to begin actual enforcement.
